Album Review: Flatline-Pave The Way

Los Angeles, California’s Flatline combine old school thrash with melodic death and other extreme genres. Pave The Way is not a very accurate title, because they are definitely following a well worn path, not blazing new trails. Flatline’s LP “Pave the Way,” contains a passage of music that cannot be containing much longer. Flatline have faced many challenges in their history up until this point of their career and this monstrous record. “We had a confrontation with another Flatline band who wanted to take us to court, but they didn’t own the actual copyright for the band name, they had just began the process.” Johnson explains. “We thought about changing our name to Blessed By Death but we’ve been Flatline for so long that we wanted to keep it. We tracked down the band who owned the copyright and for the name and purchased it from them. We’re the only legal Flatline now.” Aside from this minor crisis striking the band the band has also been rocked and rolled to several trips to the hospital, money issues and lineup changes but that’s the average problems in the music world. Flatline’s “Pave the Way,” consists of 10-tracks each one more defining than the last. Some tunes to watch out includes “Blessed By Death,” “God As My Witness,” and “Worn Thin,” all of which carry within a hard smack to the face having the drool and blood running down your jawbone as the music invades your body. Flatline glides smoothly and effectively down that path, unleashing galloping thrash riffs and solos that slow down into a powerful groove.  The guitars are fast and heavy and gets right to the point of the beat of the music, as well as the drums which take up a fast driven pace as the vocals chant and shout their lyrical themes from every angle possible. All in all Flatline present themselves well this time around and this is a record you won’t want to miss out on!
