Album Review: Underoath-Lost in the Sound of Separation

Underoath’s new album, Lost in the Sound of Separation easily makes the mark of their heaviest CD to date. Each album the band releases always seems to push their creativity, proving that Underoath is capable of doing anything they set their mind to. Underoath easily deserves the title as one of the most motivating and passionate Christian bands out there today. The album concentrates on Spencer Chamberlain’s drug problems of the past, and the band is definitely not afraid to get the message that they want the fans to hear out there. The lighter song on the record, “Too Bright To See, Too Loud To Hear”, proves the point. The lyrics say, “Good God if your song leaves our lips/If your work leaves our hands/ then we will be wonders and vagabonds”. The song straight up talks about how, “we’re all people but without purpose, we can feel lost”, as said by guitarist Tim Mctague. The album is full of musical diversity. From heavy metal to piano music it’s all here. People who buy the CD with an open mind may even find the truth in God, and that is what Underoath is aiming for in this record. The ending song of the record, “Desolate Earth: The End Is Near”, leaves fans with a powerful message that God does exist and wants to save every one of us. Then the CD ends, leaving listeners with many thoughts roaming throughout their mind. A real band with real talent does not just limit themselves to one specific sound, but a diversity of sounds, and that’s what Underoath does with their newest album, Lost in the Sound of Separation. 5/5
