Album Review: Coldplay-Viva La Vida!
Coldplay just released the title track off of Viva La Vida as the first single off their new album and it’s different, edgy, not to mention ridiculously catchy. It’s not the traditional Coldplay, but it is still very much them. Then, comes their new album, bearing the same name as the first single, Viva La Vida, and fittingly so. The entire album is just as catchy as the first single, just as different than what you’re used to hearing, and undeniably immaculate. Honestly, I’m not a huge fan of pop rock, but this album is absolutely incredible. In every song, you can hear new instruments, influences from different parts of the world, and the influence of the audience on their music. A great example of the latter is the song “Lost!”—starting out with catchy clap-alongs and epic arena faithful vocals carrying the song through. I’ll guarantee this will be a live favorite for Coldplay fans.
Beyond the wonderful diversity and the ability of the songs to be just as great through a pair of headphones as through thirty enormous speakers, it’s the flexibility of the album and it’s songs and how they work. The entire album flows so perfectly from one song to another, yet each song can still stand apart from the album and have the same power. Get the whole album or just get a couple of songs—you won’t be disappointed. Not one bit.
